Engineers at Holon used the photogrammetric 3D scanner "HL‑3DS+" to scan the racing car suspension for a team at Guangdong International Circuit. The client needed to use the high‑precision 3D data obtained from scanning to tune the racing car’s suspension system, so that the racing car could deliver outstanding performance during races.

Facing problems

The suspension system is one of the most difficult parts of the entire vehicle to scan. It features a complex structure, delicate components, and numerous blind spots.

The customer requires that the four suspension systems of the racing car be positioned on the same coordinate.

Solution

The racing car suspension system refers to the entire support system composed of components such as springs and shock absorbers between the car body and tires. It functions to support the vehicle body and improve riding comfort. Different suspension setups deliver distinct driving experiences for drivers. Though seemingly simple in appearance, the suspension system integrates multiple acting forces. It determines the stability, comfort and safety of the racing car, making it one of the extremely critical components of the whole vehicle.

A racing team at Guangdong International Circuit intended to analyze the racing car’s suspension system using three‑dimensional data. With accurate 3D data, the tuning of the racing car could become more scientific. Hualang engineers, who have extensive scanning experience in the automotive industry, arrived at the scanning site. Based on the characteristics of the racing car, they quickly worked out a scanning plan and completed the scanning work to satisfy the client’s requirements.
