The 3D design of molds is a crucial aspect of digital mold technology and serves as the foundation for achieving integration in mold design, manufacturing, and inspection. Companies such as Toyota in Japan and General Motors in the United States have already implemented 3D design for molds and achieved positive application results. Besides facilitating integrated manufacturing, another advantage of 3D mold design is its ease of interference checking. It allows for motion interference analysis, addressing a challenging issue in 2D design.

1. The mold is made of aluminum alloy material, with a glossy and highly reflective surface. To ensure measurement accuracy, the customer requires that no imaging agent be sprayed.
2. The automobile mold is about 3 meters long, with a large and bulky volume. Traditional measurement methods are slow and involve complex workflows. Moreover, many dimensions and geometric features cannot be effectively measured, which is prone to generating secondary errors.

The scanning process was convenient and quick without the need for spraying imaging agents, taking less than 30 minutes and achieving extremely high scanning accuracy.
