Copper tubes in air conditioning filters are prone to deformation after prolonged use, leading to reduced heat exchange efficiency and a risk of leakage. Customers need to compare the deformation observed after service against the as-manufactured state to quantitatively analyze service life and quality issues; however, traditional inspection methods are limited by the complex structure, making precise, comprehensive measurement difficult to achieve.

Facing problems

The interlaced winding of multiple copper tubes creates scanning blind spots, and the curved surfaces and dense hole patterns require sub-millimeter reproduction accuracy; furthermore, the highly reflective nature of copper leads to increased noise and feature discontinuities in the optical scan data—challenges that traditional tools struggle to handle.

Solution

HOLON engineers utilized the Model 49 handheld scanner, employing anti-reflective algorithms to suppress interference from copper surfaces and flexibly navigating gaps between multiple tubes to capture details of curved surfaces and hole locations. The scan data was processed via comparison software to generate deformation heatmaps and quantify parameters such as tube diameter shrinkage and curvature; combined with a material database, this enabled the prediction of remaining service life, helping the client rapidly identify defects and optimize maintenance strategies—thereby fully meeting the client's needs and achieving the desired results.
