      A power grid is defined as the integrated system comprising substations of various voltage levels and the associated power transmission and distribution lines. Grid development has become a primary focus of China's power infrastructure construction, with investment continuing to expand; by 2020, a unified, robust, and smart grid is set to be fully established, marking initial progress toward the goal of building a world-class power grid. To address needs such as positioning holes within the grid structure and replacing components, 3D scanning technology is employed to pinpoint exact locations; this facilitates faster progress and greater accuracy in subsequent tasks, thereby enhancing overall work efficiency and saving time.

Facing problems

The client required a solution capable of rapid scanning, precise hole positioning, and high data accuracy. The work was challenging due to the size of the sample—standing 3 to 4 meters tall—and its complex structure, which featured numerous connecting parts and tight angles. 

Traditional scanning methods were unsuitable for this application; they were too time-consuming and failed to yield data of sufficient quality for subsequent processing.

Solution

We tailor solutions to meet the specific scanning requirements of each client's sample. For this project, our engineers utilized the HOLON751 handheld 3D scanner to perform a comprehensive scan and capture precise data, completing the entire process in just 10 minutes.

Transmission Tower STL Data Model

       The scanner offers rapid measurement speeds, high data accuracy, and excellent stability, enabling the quick and precise scanning of workpieces. Its switchable single-laser-line mode facilitates the scanning of deep holes and intricate details, ensuring comprehensive data capture. The acquired data is then imported into 3D software for processing and the generation of analysis reports. The scan results meet customer requirements, capturing fine details effectively and allowing for precise hole positioning and subsequent part replacement, thereby resolving the issues the customer was facing.
