3D measurement of 25-meter wind turbine blade mold

A well-known wind power equipment manufacturing enterprise needs to conduct 3D measurement on wind turbine blade molds to inspect whether the blade molds are produced qualified. Wind turbine blades are the most basic and crucial components in wind turbines. The design of the blades directly affects the conversion efficiency of wind energy and its annual power generation. Good design, reliable quality, and superior performance are decisive factors in ensuring the normal and stable operation of the wind turbine unit. Therefore, it is particularly important whether the quality of wind turbine blade molds meets the standards.

Facing problems

1. Due to the huge size of wind turbine blade molds (approximately 20 meters in length and 2 to 3 meters in width), the high precision required for their curved surfaces, and the inconvenience of moving them, the cumulative error can be excessive when measured using a photographic 3D scanner. How to eliminate the impact of this error is the biggest problem we face.

2.Using traditional measurement methods not only takes a long time, but also yields limited data and cannot accurately measure the three-dimensional data of the curved surface of wind turbine blades. It is impossible to conduct a complete scan and data stitching, nor can it complete quality inspection of wind turbine blade molds.

Solution

In response to the challenges posed by the large scanning area and high surface precision requirements of the wind turbine blade molds for this enterprise, Huaguang 3D technology engineers have proposed a solution: using the 3D photogrammetry system HL-3DP, which can complete the 3D inspection of ultra-large wind turbine blade molds without the need for a separate 3D scanner. This allows for rapid acquisition of high-precision 3D data of the blade mold + reverse design software (converting the point cloud data of the wind turbine blade mold into triangular mesh surface data) + importing into design software for post-processing, resulting in a detection and analysis report.
