The truck brake drum is a core component of the drum‑type braking system. Braking force is generated by friction between the internal brake shoes and the drum wall to decelerate and stop the vehicle. Its significance lies in its direct bearing on driving safety. It has to withstand high temperatures, wear and impact. High‑quality materials and structural design for brake drums can guarantee braking stability and prevent brake fade. 3D scanning technology can assist in subsequent inspection and maintenance, avert brake failure, and ensure reliability and durability under long‑distance heavy‑load operating conditions.
The client has requirements for the dimensional accuracy of the obtained workpiece. The workpiece features large radian and numerous curved surfaces. Traditional measurement methods pose considerable difficulties, making it impossible to quickly and accurately acquire 3D‑model data of the truck brake drum.

In response to the problems faced by the client, Holon technical engineers proposed a solution adopting the handheld 3D scanner: model49 to acquire 3D data of truck brake drums. Based on the obtained 3D‑scanned data, engineers carry out dimension inspection, reverse modeling, and facilitate secondary design as well as product improvement.
Scanning Equipment:
Handheld 3D Scanner: model49
Product Features:
1. Compact in size and light in weight (920g), easy to carry and operate
2. No external AC power supply required. Ready‑to‑use right out of the box with no calibration needed
3. Equipped with a total of 49 blue laser lines for faster scanning speed
4. Magnetic reference spheres are adopted. Compared with the commonly‑used marker stickers in the industry, they deliver higher positioning accuracy and offer greater convenience in operation.
