汽As key interior‑fitting components inside vehicles, the car center console and the areas surrounding the windshield have dimensional accuracy that directly impacts the sealing performance of interior assembly and overall aesthetic quality. The client needed to perform 3D data acquisition on these areas and inspect deviations via 3D comparison so as to control production quality. Since the scanning work was carried out in a dim, cramped underground parking lot, and the client had high requirements for scanning speed and precision, conventional measurement methods could hardly satisfy such demands. For this reason, the HOLON 3D model 49 handheld 3D scanner was selected to deliver accurate data support for quality inspection of automotive interiors.

Facing problems

The underground parking garage features a dim environment with insufficient lighting. Traditional optical measurement is susceptible to restrictions imposed by illumination conditions, resulting in blurry or missing acquired data. Consequently, fine details such as the curved radian of the center console and the sealing grooves around the windshield cannot be captured clearly. The scanning area is confined in space, and the structures surrounding the center console and windshield are complex, which limits the operation of conventional measuring tools. It is difficult to achieve full coverage of all inspection positions, and measurement blind spots tend to occur. Manual point‑by‑point measurement is extremely inefficient; data acquisition for a single area takes far too long and fails to meet clients’ high requirements for speed. Meanwhile, contact‑based measurement may scratch interior surfaces and impair the product appearance. In addition, it suffers from inadequate accuracy, making it hard to quantify minor dimensional deviations. This severely restricts the accuracy and efficiency of error detection.

Solution

Using the HOLON 3D model 49 handheld 3D scanner, three‑dimensional data acquisition for automobile center consoles and areas surrounding windshields can be completed efficiently and accurately. Unaffected by dim environments, this scanner can clearly capture the curved features of center consoles and the sealing grooves around windshields even under low‑light conditions in underground parking lots. It reconstructs structural forms precisely to meet the accuracy requirements for 3D comparison. Its high‑speed scanning capability greatly shortens data acquisition time and quickly obtains full‑area surface information, satisfying the client’s efficiency‑related requirements. The flexible and convenient handheld design allows free operation even in narrow spaces. It can easily cover complex structures and hidden areas, ensuring no blind spots in measurement. The non‑contact scanning method prevents scratches on interior surfaces and effectively protects product appearance. The 3D data generated after scanning is complete and accurate, fully meeting the client’s requirements for 3D comparison and error inspection. It provides a reliable digital foundation for quality control and process optimization of automotive interiors.
