When measuring auto parts, it is sometimes necessary to remove the components and scan them separately to obtain maximum precision for reverse‑engineering or 3D inspection. On other occasions, due to certain constraints, the parts cannot be disassembled and have to be scanned directly on the vehicle. Holon, the first domestic manufacturer to develop and produce handheld 3D laser scanners in China, delivers strong adaptability to diverse scanning environments and easy‑to‑operate devices, while meeting high‑precision industrial‑grade standards.
The two sheet‑metal parts have been firmly fixed inside the car’s engine compartment and are intended for measuring their mounting positions, which makes them inconvenient to remove. Although a photogrammetric scanner can be used for scanning by raising the tripod, scanning is quite troublesome due to numerous blind spots.
Automotive components feature complex shapes and a large number of hole positions. They are objects that are difficult to scan and require high measurement accuracy, and ordinary scanners available on the market cannot acquire high‑precision data.
HL‑3DH‑3M is a handheld 3D scanner independently developed by the Holon technical team for convenient scanning. It adopts a laser light source and comes with built‑in photogrammetry functionality. The scanning process is flexible, with no restrictions on scanning speed or scanning sequence. Meanwhile, it features light weight and compact dimensions. Equipped with a DC power supply and a dedicated flight case, it is extremely portable. The other end of the scanner connects to a computer. Working with Holon’s patented scanning software, it enables real‑time data transmission and automatic alignment. In less than 20 minutes, the sheet‑metal parts on the left and right sides inside an automobile engine compartment can be fully scanned. After simple processing, high‑precision 1:1 STL data can be obtained. If the 3D data is compared with the digital model, an intuitive 3D inspection report can also be generated.
