Facing problems

1. Simply using traditional methods (such as inspection gauges, jigs, and coordinate‑measuring machines) to measure automobile bumpers is very tedious and time‑consuming. Moreover, it is difficult to complete accurate and rapid measurement and inspection of the shapes of automobile bumpers.

2. Automobile bumpers feature numerous curved surfaces and snap‑fit sections. In addition, due to their relatively large size, bumpers are prone to deformation. Ordinary 3D scanners cannot quickly and accurately acquire 3D digital models of automobile bumpers.

Solution

The client intended to further improve the manufactured automobile bumpers, reduce production costs and raise the product qualification rate. Therefore, 3D engineers from Holon offered a professional solution — the HL‑3DW 3D scanner (for quickly acquiring high‑precision 3D data of automobile bumpers) plus reverse‑design software (for converting point‑cloud data of automobile bumpers into triangular mesh surface data) to assist the company in the secondary design of automobile bumpers.2.jpg

1. Preparatory Work

Spraying the developer: To enhance the background contrast on the surface of the sample and obtain better‑quality scanning data.

Pasting marker points: To enable the acquired data to be positioned and aligned within the scanning software.

2. 3D Scanning

Holon 3D engineers use the HL‑3DW 3D scanner to quickly acquire high‑precision 3D data for automobile bumpers. This 3D scanner features an extra‑large scanning area, portable design, extremely fast scanning speed, high accuracy and great stability. It only takes 30 minutes to obtain the 3D data of an automobile bumper with an accuracy of 0.03 mm. The acquired 3D data of the automobile bumper can accelerate the secondary design of automobile bumpers, provide reliable parameters for other relevant departments, and speed up the production of automobile bumpers.
