The main function of an automobile body is to protect the driver and create a favorable aerodynamic environment. A well‑designed body can not only deliver better performance but also reflect the owner’s personality. An automobile body consists of the hood, roof panel, trunk lid, and fenders, as well as the front dashboard panel. Traditional measurement methods are time‑consuming and labor‑intensive, and the accuracy of the measured data may fail to meet requirements.

Facing problems

It is necessary to quickly conduct three‑dimensional measurement on the complete vehicle to obtain a 3D digital model. However, the complete vehicle features numerous and relatively complex curved surfaces. In addition to improving measurement efficiency, measurement accuracy also needs to be well controlled, with the overall measurement accuracy required to be within 0.2 mm.

Solution

Based on the company's specific conditions, Holon 3D engineers only need to use the HOLON3D custom‑built 3D scanner (HL‑3DWV+) to scan the car body, quickly acquire the 3D data of the measured vehicle body and establish vehicle‑body data, which provides an important basis for subsequent production and design modification.

The advanced and stable photogrammetric 3D scanning method can meet the requirements for rapid measurement better than any traditional measuring equipment. It can easily handle automobiles featuring numerous and relatively complex curved surfaces, and ultimately quickly acquire complete 3D curved‑surface data of automobiles. This greatly cuts down measurement time and effectively improves work efficiency. The HOLON3D custom‑built 3D scanner (HL‑3DWV+) was used to scan an automobile body. The scanning took 2.5 hours with a scanning accuracy of 0.2 MM.
