The performance limit of a bike's shifting system hides in the tiny gaps of the rear derailleur. This moving part, which integrates multiple sets of gears, hollowed-out brackets, and axle structures, has extremely high requirements for gear profile accuracy and assembly tolerances. To break free from the limitations of traditional measurement methods, the customer used the HOLON blue-light 3D scanner to digitally capture the entire rear derailleur assembly, using the complete 3D data to support quality checks and new product development iterations.

Manual calipers and height gauge measurements: at least 3–5 days, can't accurately measure curved surfaces, arcs, or fit gaps, easy to accumulate errors, assembly can get stuck or shift gears; if you want to benchmark against competitors or optimize structure to reduce weight, you're also missing a complete and reliable 3D base model.

The HOLON 3D handheld full-blue laser industrial 3D scanner offers an efficient digital solution for reverse engineering bicycle rear derailleurs. This device has industrial-grade measurement capabilities, with standard accuracy of 0.02mm and up to 0.01mm at its best. It can clearly capture fine details like the complex tooth profiles of the derailleur, hollow bracket surfaces, hinge areas, and mounting reference holes, preserving micrometer-level product features and providing high-quality raw point clouds, giving a solid data foundation for reverse modeling.
