Engineers from HOLON used the "3DMV+" photogrammetric 3D scanner to scan military helmet goggles. The client required high-precision 3D data obtained from the scan to support the application of microwave digital transmission equipment and to facilitate the development of improved designs.
Traditional measurement methods suffer from insufficient data acquisition density (inadequate data volume). Given the relatively complex internal structure of the goggles, these methods fail to accurately measure the curved surfaces and contours of military helmet visors, making subsequent reverse modeling impossible. The process is labor-intensive, inefficient, and lacks the necessary precision to meet client requirements, thereby complicating the downstream reverse design work needed for product development.
To shorten the R&D cycle and reduce development costs for PLA helmet visors, HOLON 3D proposed a solution addressing the client's specific challenges: utilizing an industrial-grade 3D scanner (3DMV) to capture the visor's 3D data. This scanner is characterized by rapid scanning speeds, high precision, ease of operation, and robust stability. During the scanning process, the software automatically stitches the 3D data together using reference markers, enabling the complete capture of the visor's 3D data in less than 30 minutes. The resulting 3D data can be imported into software to generate an STL triangular mesh and subsequently used in 3D design software for reverse engineering. This approach enhances efficiency and reduces costs in the redesign and improvement of the product.
