As common structural or appearance‑related components in industrial products, plastic parts have their integrity of detailed features and dimensional accuracy directly affecting the assembly suitability and user experience of finished products. The customer needed to perform 3D scanning on these plastic parts to obtain precise 3D data, laying a foundation for subsequent product optimization design. Given the abundant fine surface features of the plastic parts and the customer’s high requirements for scanning accuracy, traditional measurement methods could hardly satisfy such demands. For this reason, the HOLON 3D smart 49 handheld full‑blue‑laser industrial‑grade 3D scanner was selected to deliver reliable data support for the digital acquisition and optimized design of the plastic parts.

Facing problems

Plastic parts feature many fine detailed features such as small snaps and ribs distributed across their surfaces. These features serve as critical references for design‑optimization work. Traditional measuring tools require manual point‑by‑point operation, which is not only inefficient but also prone to missing or deviated detail data due to restricted operating angles and human errors, failing to meet high‑precision data requirements. Certain areas of plastic components may suffer slight deformation. Improper force applied during contact‑based measurement can aggravate such deformation and compromise data authenticity. Besides, conventional optical measurement is susceptible to ambient light fluctuations, resulting in unstable data acquisition. Since subsequent design optimization by the client has to rely on complete and accurate 3‑dimensional data, the data obtained via traditional approaches cannot support efficient design work, which severely restricts the progress and quality of design optimization.

Solution

Adopting the HOLON 3D smart 49 handheld all‑blue‑laser industrial‑grade 3D scanner enables targeted solutions to the core challenges in scanning plastic parts. Equipped with all‑blue laser technology, this scanner can clearly capture detailed features such as snaps and ribs on plastic parts, accurately reconstruct the actual structure of components, meet customers’ high precision requirements, and deliver fine‑grained data foundations for design optimization. Its high‑speed scanning capability greatly reduces data‑acquisition time, allowing rapid acquisition of full‑surface information to satisfy the demand for efficient data preparation in the early‑stage design phase. The non‑contact scanning mode avoids direct contact with plastic parts, effectively preventing material deformation and ensuring data authenticity. Meanwhile, the scanner features strong adaptability; it is not affected by external factors such as ambient light and can stably output high‑quality data across various scenarios. Its flexible, portable handheld design easily covers complex structures and hidden areas of plastic parts to guarantee dead‑zone‑free data collection. The complete and accurate 3D data generated after scanning fully satisfies customers’ subsequent design‑optimization requirements and provides reliable digital support for product‑performance enhancement and structural improvement.
