A renowned hospital specializing in burn treatment and plastic surgery is improving its treatment protocols for facial burns, aiming to eliminate scars sooner and provide appropriate psychological therapy to facilitate the patients' rapid recovery.

Facing problems

1. Traditional treatment methods involve applying plaster to the patient's face and removing it after it sets in order to create a medicated mask that conforms to the patient's facial contours; however, this process causes the patient discomfort.

2. Higher-precision facial data enables the production of a mask that fits the face perfectly, thereby reducing patient discomfort. Standard 3D scanners often fail to capture data with the level of precision required by clients.

Solution

Facial burns are often sudden incidents; given the face's unique status as a prominent part of the body, such accidents instantly alter a patient's daily life, imposing a significant mental and psychological burden. To facilitate rapid recovery, the hospital has introduced a new treatment method for facial burns.

To address the challenges involved, HOLON 3D engineers proposed a solution utilizing the HL-3DH-F+ handheld 3D scanner (for rapid acquisition of high-precision facial 3D data), reverse engineering software (to convert facial point cloud data into triangular mesh data), and design software (to create a facial data model) to proceed directly to medication production.

The HL-3DH-F+ handheld 3D scanner is compact, lightweight (800g), and user-friendly, boasting a scanning speed of up to 80,000 points per second. It is particularly adept at scanning the human body, capable of capturing complete 3D facial data in just three seconds. This approach eliminates the need to create plaster casts directly on the patient's face—thereby avoiding added discomfort—and accelerates the hospital's development of therapeutic products.
