The welding frame is a core structural component of the electric strapping tool; its dimensional accuracy directly impacts welding performance and operational stability. The client required 3D data acquisition of the frame to generate a manufacturing-ready 3D model through reverse engineering. As conventional measurement methods could not meet the client's stringent requirements for scanning speed and accuracy, the HOLON 3D Smart 49 handheld 3D scanner was selected to provide precise data support for the frame's digital modeling and subsequent manufacturing.

Facing problems

The welded framework features a complex design incorporating elements such as apertures and curved surfaces. Traditional measurement tools require manual, point-by-point inspection, which is highly inefficient and makes rapid acquisition of comprehensive data difficult; furthermore, operational errors can easily lead to deviations in critical dimensions, failing to meet the high precision required for manufacturing. Contact-based measurement methods risk deforming or damaging thin-walled sections or weld joints, thereby compromising structural integrity. Additionally, data obtained via traditional methods requires manual conversion before it can be used for modeling—a cumbersome process prone to errors and omissions that severely limits reverse modeling efficiency and model accuracy, rendering the data unsuitable for direct use in production.

Solution

The HOLON 3D Smart 49 handheld 3D scanner enables efficient and precise 3D data acquisition for welded frameworks. Its high-precision capabilities allow for the clear capture of features such as fine details, hole locations, and surface curvatures, accurately replicating the component's true structure to meet the rigorous precision demands of reverse modeling and manufacturing. High-speed scanning significantly reduces data acquisition time and rapidly captures full-surface information, satisfying customer requirements for efficiency. The non-contact scanning method prevents damage to fragile areas, effectively preserving the component's structural integrity. Handheld operation offers flexibility and convenience, easily covering complex structures and hidden corners to ensure comprehensive data capture without blind spots. The resulting 3D data is complete and accurate, fully meeting the requirements for generating manufacturing-ready 3D models via reverse modeling, thereby providing a reliable digital foundation for the mass production and quality control of welded frameworks.
