The mold is the core tool for shaping the figure, and its surface details directly determine the product's aesthetic refinement. The client required 3D data acquisition of the mold—followed by reverse modeling to reconstruct its structure—to facilitate repair, replication, or design optimization. Given the mold's complex surface features and reflectivity, combined with the client's high standards for scanning speed and accuracy, traditional measurement methods proved inadequate. Consequently, the HOLON 3D Smart 49 handheld all-blue laser 3D scanner was selected to provide precise data support for the mold's digital reverse modeling.

Facing problems

Figurine molds feature complex surface textures and intricate relief patterns; however, their material properties cause reflections that interfere with traditional optical measurement methods, leading to incomplete feature capture or data distortion and preventing an accurate reconstruction of the mold's true form. Critical structural elements—such as fine engravings, precise hole locations, and smooth surface transitions—demand extremely high measurement accuracy; traditional contact-based methods are not only inefficient but also prone to errors during point-by-point operation, making it difficult to capture these details precisely enough to meet the requirements for reverse modeling. Furthermore, the need for rapid data acquisition to advance subsequent workflows renders the lengthy processes of traditional measurement unsuitable, severely constraining both the speed and quality of the mold's reverse modeling.

Solution

The HOLON 3D Smart 49 handheld all-blue laser 3D scanner was employed to overcome the specific challenges associated with scanning figurine molds, leveraging its all-blue laser technology. This technology effectively suppresses surface reflections, ensuring the clear capture of intricate textures, contours, and other complex features without data distortion. The device offers high-precision performance, accurately reproducing critical structural details—such as fine carvings, hole dimensions, and curved surface transitions—thereby establishing a reliable data foundation for reverse modeling. Its high-speed scanning capabilities significantly reduce data acquisition time, enabling rapid capture of the entire surface and meeting the client's stringent efficiency requirements. Non-contact operation prevents surface scratches, preserving the integrity of the mold's features, while the flexible handheld design allows for easy access to complex areas, ensuring comprehensive data coverage without blind spots. The resulting 3D data is complete and precise, fully meeting the requirements for reverse modeling and providing efficient, reliable digital support for the repair, replication, and design optimization of the client's figurine molds.
