Industrial pliers are indispensable tools in both industrial manufacturing and routine maintenance. The precision of the jaw engagement, the sharpness and symmetry of the cutting edges, and the ergonomic contours of the handles directly determine the tool's service life, handling comfort, and safety. Traditional measurement methods—such as using calipers or coordinate measuring machines (CMMs)—are not only inefficient but also struggle to provide comprehensive and accurate inspections of complex free-form surfaces and narrow tooth profiles.

Facing problems

Traditional measuring tools cannot capture comprehensive data from the handle's curved surfaces. The thin cutting edges and minute tips place extremely high demands on the precision of handheld scanners.

Solution

Using the HOLON compact metrology 3D scanner in precision scanning mode, intersecting blue laser lines accurately capture details such as the sharp cutting edges and the fine anti-slip texture of the handle. This process generates a dense point cloud with sub-millimeter precision, digitally replicating the pliers' complete design features. The resulting comprehensive 3D model can be exported in standard formats like STL or OBJ, enabling seamless integration into workflows for digital archiving, 3D visualization, or reverse engineering.
