During use, molds are prone to breakage, bending, and surface damage (such as chipping or gouging); consequently, detailed records of such damage are essential to provide the data needed to identify and resolve issues. Therefore, 3D scanning technology is utilized for inspection to pinpoint the specific problems.

The workpiece process is relatively complex, with grooves, curved surfaces, holes and other details that are difficult to detect manually. In addition, the object is a combination, and some details cannot be measured manually. This means that the quality cannot be controlled and there may be deviations. Using a 3D scanner can measure all details without contact through laser line scanning, providing a simple and convenient inspection solution.

HOLON engineers used the HOLON751 handheld 3D scanner to scan the object. First, reference markers were applied to the item. The HOLON751 features both standard and fine modes; the standard mode was used to capture data from the workpiece as a whole, while the fine mode was subsequently employed to scan intricate details. By freely switching between these modes for different sections, the team successfully obtained high-precision scan data.
