The frame of an electric tricycle features a complex structure of bent tubular components with numerous irregular free-form surfaces, serving as the vehicle's primary load-bearing element. As the dimensional and geometric accuracy of the frame directly impacts subsequent vehicle assembly and operational safety, manufacturers require efficient, comprehensive full-dimensional inspection capabilities to ensure quality control in mass production.

Vehicle frames often feature complex bent tubes and irregular curved surfaces; traditional measuring tools—such as calipers and height gauges—are limited to measuring only a few discrete points, making comprehensive inspection impossible and increasing the risk of overlooking surface warping or localized deformation. Transporting large frames to a laboratory for inspection is inconvenient and inefficient, failing to meet the need for rapid quality checks on the shop floor. Relying solely on discrete point data makes it difficult to intuitively analyze overall deformation, and when assembly issues arise, pinpointing the root cause of manufacturing deviations becomes challenging.

Using the HOLON handheld 3D scanner enables on-site operations directly within the production workshop; the device is easy to use and requires no complex fixturing. A complete, all-around scan of the tricycle frame can be completed quickly to capture high-precision 3D data, achieving a measurement accuracy of 0.02 mm. The scanned point cloud data is imported directly into inspection software for automatic comparison with the original design CAD model, generating a color-coded deviation report that rapidly identifies dimensional discrepancies and deformation defects. Based on this quantitative inspection report, the enterprise can promptly adjust production process parameters, controlling frame manufacturing quality at the source and ensuring product consistency across batches.
