Recently, a professional automobile manufacturer approached Hualang. It wanted to measure the dimensions of car tires, inspect tire wall thickness, and generate an overall model to check the fit with wheel hubs. The manufacturer hoped our company could recommend a suitable 3D scanning solution and proceeded with equipment purchase.

Tires are vital components of transportation vehicles. Most tires feature sophisticated structural designs and require a high‑degree of matching with wheel hubs, which calls for high precision. Tires are black, and wheel‑hub materials are highly light‑absorbent. Ordinary 3D scanners cannot perform direct scanning, which places stringent requirements on the tools and technologies adopted for 3D inspection.

Engineers at HOLON 3D adopted a solution combining the HOLON 760 handheld 3D laser scanner and 3D inspection software. They used the HOLON 760 handheld 3D laser scanner to perform 3D scanning on the tire (no spray‑on powder required) to obtain full‑dimension 3D scan data. The operation is simple and scanning is fast, taking only a short 10 minutes. Meanwhile, scan data is displayed in real‑time on the PC during scanning. Afterwards, the scanned 3D data is imported into the 3D inspection software. By marking the points to be measured, corresponding measurement data can be generated. Using this straightforward approach, HOLON 3D has successfully solved all of the customer’s problems.
