To enhance product iteration efficiency, a mechanical component manufacturer partnered with HOLON 3D to conduct reverse engineering; the project required high-precision 3D scanning of workpieces to generate complete digital models that would support subsequent research and development.

The workpiece features curved surfaces, micron-level edge details, and precision assembly holes. Traditional scanning methods often fail to capture accurate contour data due to metallic reflections and are prone to edge distortion around the holes; this results in significant errors during reverse modeling, which compromises subsequent structural optimization and tolerance analysis. Consequently, a handheld 3D scanner was selected.

The HOLON 3D Model 49 scanner features an all-blue laser light source with adjustable brightness to penetrate workpiece surfaces, capturing intricate details of curved surfaces and hole locations with 0.02mm precision. High-speed scanning at 4.2 million points per second ensures efficiency, while four switchable scanning modes adapt to various features and workpieces. It outputs point clouds and STL models, eliminating data gaps and providing a reliable foundation for reverse engineering.
